CMA Launches Upgraded Hybrid ATS System at the National Bank of Serbia
April 23, 2026
CMA Small Systems AB has successfully completed the upgrade and launch of a hybrid Automated Transfer System (ATS) at the National Bank of Serbia, integrating RTGS (RTS/X) and ACH functionality within a unified platform.
The upgraded system represents one of the early hybrid RTGS and ACH implementations globally, reflecting the ongoing transition of payment infrastructures towards integrated, multi-layered architectures.
The project introduces several key enhancements, including migration to ISO 20022 messaging standards (MX, IAP v1.2), implementation of API-based integration via REST protocols, and deployment of modern participant workstations. A built-in MT–MX conversion capability ensures a smooth transition for system participants, allowing continued use of legacy formats during migration.
The upgraded platform supports the continued evolution of Serbia’s payment infrastructure, enabling higher efficiency, improved interoperability, and a scalable foundation for future developments.
According to official data published by the National Bank of Serbia, the system processes peak daily turnover approaching 2.9 trillion RSD and transaction volumes exceeding 1.5 million payments, highlighting its role as a systemically important financial market infrastructure.
In parallel, CMA also provides technology supporting the national Instant Payment System (IPS), contributing to the development of a comprehensive payment ecosystem that spans high-value, retail, and instant payment layers.
The successful implementation reflects CMA’s approach to evolutionary modernization, enabling central banks to upgrade critical infrastructures while ensuring continuity and stability for market participants.
